Large numbers of people under the leadership of former Minister and former MLA of Sukinda Prafulla Chandra Ghadai on Monday organised a protest meeting in front of the office of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in Bhubaneswar.
They sought to draw the attention of the NHAI to the poor road condition of the road and delay in startingthe four laning work of 45 km long Chandikhol-Sukinda highway in Jajpur district.
They threatened to intensify their agitation if authorities failed to address their problems.
“We protested in front of the office of NHAI to draw its attention to the pathetic condition of the road. The Chandikhol-Sukinda NH- 53 had developed hundreds of potholes, causing inconvenience to commuters. The residents had been demanding that the authorities to get the road repaired and start the four-laning work soon,” toldGhadei.
They raised slogans against the NHAI for not initiating any measures to improve the condition of the road .
According to the protesters, the road had witnessed several accidents in recent months owing to its poor condition and road jam.
“We entrusted a reputed construction company to start the road widening work from Chandikhol to Sukinda.
The company will complete the work within three years,”said an official of NHAI, Bhubaneswar.
