About 5,000 permanent and ad-hoc teachers of Delhi University took out a mega march from Parliament Street to Mandi house on Monday demanding one-time absorption of temporary and ad hoc teachers. The teachers were earlier protesting outside the DU Vice-Chancellor (V-C) office for the past 10 days.
The MHRD has agreed to some of the urgent demands of the DU Teachers Association, including the amendment to the 28 August DU Circular and the counting of past services in all pending cases of promotions as per the 2018 Career Advancement Scheme. However, the demands for absorption and the counting of total years of service for promotions have not been conceded to by the MHRD.
'DUTA's demand of absorption of Ad-hoc teachers is justified. There is a feeling of in security in ad-hoc teachers. In last many years whenever selection committees were held in Colleges and Departments of the University, because of nepotism and favoritism, many ad-hoc teachers with more than 10 years of ad-hoc teaching experience were displaced. Teachers feel that selection process is not fair whenever interviews are held and candidates who are well connected are selected and not on the basis of their performance," Dr Pankaj Garg, Former Member, Academic Council.
The protesting teachers further added that they will continue their protest and boycott the classes since they get assurance and a solution from UGC and DU administration.
