BJP MLA demands NRC survey in UP

Friday, 06 September 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Alleging large-scale infiltration of outsiders into Uttar Pradesh, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Meerut, Satya Prakash Agarwal, has demanded a National Register of Citizens (NRC) survey in the state to identify outsiders “who are thriving on the state’s resources”.

The legislator has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for implementation of the NRC in Uttar Pradesh, saying that infiltrators are creating communal disturbances and are responsible for social imbalance.

The BJP leader said that there were at least one lakh infiltrators in each of the 75 districts of the state.

“But the situation in Meerut is very disturbing as infiltrators are ruling the roost by creating nuisance. Meerut has more than three lakh infiltrators,” he alleged.

Agrawal said that if the Centre went for a NRC survey in UP, more infiltrators would be found in the state than in Assam.

“In UP, these infiltrators, mostly from a particular community, have acquired election photo identity cards (EPIC) and Aadhaar through back door and claim themselves to be genuine citizens. If we do not identify these people and act against them soon, the situation in the state would become dangerous in the coming days,” he said.

The BJP MLA said in the letter, which was released to the press on Thursday, that two Assembly constituencies — Meerut City and Meerut South — had become minority-dominated due to infiltration, and this was threatening social and communal harmony.

“These infiltrators first stay in slums on the outskirts of the city and then with the help of local politicians procure ration cards and other documents in their names. Later, they indulge in petty criminal acts and force the majority community to migrate to other place,” he alleged.

The legislator also alleged that some years back an explosion took place in a slum in Meerut but instead of acting against them, the then Samajwadi Party regime paid compensation to three families.

“The NRC survey is required more in UP as it is the most populated state and the situation in western UP is volatile” Agarwal added.
