At least 50 bamboo handicraft artists from Bokaro are going to participate in the bamboo artisan conclave to showcase their art. A two day Bamboo Artisans Conclave is scheduled to be organized in Dumka on September 18 and 19 to mark the International Bamboo Day.
Aiming to promote the bamboo produced in Jharkhand in the International market, the State Government is organising this artisan Conclave 2019 at Dumka, informed Vikash Kumar Hembrom, District Public Relation Officer Bokaro. “The programme is being held to provide a platform for farmers, artisans, bamboo-based entrepreneurs and prospective investors in the plantation, processing and value addition sector of bamboo,” said Hembrom.
These artists use to make essential items from bamboos which are useful in common life, such as table, chair, pen stand, dustbin, book stand including others, he said adding, "It is often seen that these types of objects used in everyday life are mainly made of plastic which is harmful for the environment too. So we should use these items made of bamboo." The use of such items (made of bamboo) will not only help handicraftsmen (financially) but also give a strong boost to the bamboo industry. It will also help in increasing the stature towards creating a plastic-free environment, he said. This conclave will witness international buyers from more than half a dozen countries like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Norway, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan. Several members of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries will also visit the in bamboo products making training including representatives of IKEA, an international furniture brand from Sweden, which buys Bamboo from Jharkhand, will also participate, informed an official.
Around 10,000 artisans (Bamboo) across the State will participate in the event to learn and showcase their products. To promote our local art with the modern techniques that will generate a livelihood opportunity for the tribal population and double their income is the vision of our Chief Minister, said an official. Jharkhand produces around 2500 million tonnes of bamboo in a year. The State Government plans to create an international market for bamboo products made of here. The program is being organized by the Mukhyamantri Laghu Evam Kutir Udyog Vikas Board and matches with the International Bamboo Day, he said.
