After Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), the Delhi Government has decided to deploy home guard marshals for clusters buses also. The main aim behind the deployment of marshals in the buses is to provide safety and security for the passengers especially women who travel late in night for work.
The Government has also decided to deploy marshals both in evening and morning to ensure safety of the passengers. Earlier, the marshals were only deployed during night but they will work both in evening and morning on shift basis.
The DTC only has marshals in the evening shift at the moment. It has been decided to deploy marshals in the morning shift in buses. Marshals will now be appointed in both the shifts as well as in buses running under the cluster scheme.
Currently, there are 5,500 buses in the national Capital running under DTC and cluster bus service. Each one of the buses will have one marshal.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced that the former home guards of Delhi Government will also join the join the services as marshals in order to provide safety to the woman passengers. Former home guards will be appointed as marshals in the buses. The appointment of marshals in buses will start from Deepwali.
The CM in his tweet also appealed to all the former home guards to protect women in buses with all sincerity.
Besides, the Delhi Government is also started the project of installing 25 lakh CCTV cameras across the city and 2.10 lakh street lights for safety of women and residents of Delhi.
The Delhi government will invite application for marshals by advertising in newspapers within the next 2-3 days. "The first priority will be given to home guards who have served for three years. Those who have served for two years will then be chosen. Delhi Home Minister Satyendra Jain has said that according to the official data, there are 5,000 ex-home guards who were let go. All the five thousand home guards are expected to get jobs. The former home guards will only have to give the experience certificate and the age certificate," said a government official.
"I hope that you will work to protect women, and you will take full responsibility for women safety in Delhi buses. If a woman is harassed, it is your responsibility to stop the perpetrators and hand them over to the police," said Arvind Kejriwal while addressing home guards at his residence.
