Saturday, 09 March 2019 | GAYATHRI MANI | NEW DELHI

The Delhi Government has changed names of two stations located on Pink Line. Hazarat Nizamuddin station name has been changed to ‘Sarai Kale Nizamuddin’ and INA on Pink Line name has been updated with ‘Dilli Haat INA’. However, the INA station falls on Yellow Line will have the same name.

The proposal for changing names of the two stations was approved in a meeting held on 22 January by the State Name Change Authority headed by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

Following which the decision came on effect on Friday. “The decision for name changing was taken after receiving complaints from the commuters as well as keeping the people’s convenience in mind regarding better transport facility. For instance, Sarai Kale Khan Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) is situated near the Hazarat Nizamuddin Railway Station but many people got confused to locate the bus terminal as the name was not mentioned earlier.

Also, in order to highlight the Dilli Haat, the name of INA on Pink Line has been changed to ‘Dilli Haat’ INA,” said a member of State Name

Change Authority requesting anonymity.

The Pink Link which was inaugurated last year connects from Shiv Vihar to Majlis Park. The 59 kilometre section is the longest corridor of Delhi Metro rail Corporation with a total of 38 stations situated in South, West, East and Northen parts of Delhi.

Further, the State Government of Uttar Pradesh (Ghaziabad) has also changed names of two stations i.e, New Bus Adda becomes Shaeed Sthal (New Bus Adda) and Rajendar Nagar becomes Major Mohit Sharma Rajendra Nagar station, an extension of Red Line have been renamed in honour of the country’s fallen heroes, said a Delhi Metro official.

The corridor was thrown open to the public on Friday by the Prime Minster

Narendra Modi. After the opening of the section, the Delhi Metro network will span 336.6 km with 244 metro

stations. The DMRC’s span in Uttar Pradesh would be 52.85 km. This section will be an extension of the 25.09-km Rithala-Dilshad Garden corridor or Red Line, which has 21 stations. After opening of this section, the entire Red Line will become 34.72 km.
