10 women candidates win voters in State elections

In the State Assembly elections 2019, as many as 52 female candidates from various political parties were in fray. Out of all the women candidates 10 have managed to win the elections.

The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) had given tickets to seven candidates while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) to six women candidates. Both AJSU and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) had fielded nine candidates each while Indian National Congress had given tickets to six women candidates.

The BJP had candidates like Pushpa Devi, Dr Neera Yadav, Louis Marandi and Aparna Sengupta among others. BJP candidate Pushpa Devi (46) from Chattarpur secured to get 64,127 votes and her victory margin is 26,792 votes. Another woman candidate Dr Neera Yadav (48) received 63,321 votes. Yadav was contesting the election from Koderma and won with a margin of 1671 votes.

From Nirsa in the district of Dhanbad, Aparna Sengupta (50) has won with a margin of 21,039. Sengupta, a BJP contestant has received a total of 68,780 votes.

Some of the candidates from the JMM included Joba Majhi, Sabita Mahato, Mahua Maji and Sita Murmu.

Joba Majhi (55) has managed to clinch a total of 50,945 votes and has won with a margin of 16,019 votes from her constituency Manoharpur. Sabita Mahato (45) also from the same political party had contested the elections from Ichagarh has received about 41,693 votes. Mahato has won with a margin of around 7896 votes in her constituency.

JMM’s 44-year-old Sita Murmu (Soren) who had contested the elections from Jama got a total of 60,925 votes and has won by a margin of 2426 votes. The Indian National Congress supported three young women candidates- Amba Prasad, Mamta Devi and Pushpa Niraj Singh among others in the Assembly elections.

The Congress had fielded 31-year-old Amba Prasad, a candidate from the constituency of Barkagaon. The young contestant managed to receive about 79, 281 votes and also win with a margin of 24,427 votes.

Another young candidate contesting from the political party was 34-year-old Mamta Devi from Ramgarh. The Ramgarh contestant got a total of 72,498 votes in her constituency and win with a whopping margin of 18,944 votes.

From Jharia, Pushpa Niraj Singh (34) got a total of 77,705 votes in her respective constituency and managed to win with a huge margin of 12,122 votes from her opponent. Deepika Pandey Singh (44) from the same political party received about 68,249 votes and won with 9809 votes in her constituency Mahagama in Godda district.
