Incomplete without God

We don’t lose anything if we connect with God; we will only gain as has been experienced by all those who have over the ages, writes AJIT KUMAR BISHNOI

God knows this fact because He is the creator. This is the comic design. Do weij Either we don’t know this fact or refuse to accept this reality on account of our inflated egos. However, God being very merciful encourages us to turn to Him. Do you realise how many times has lord Krishna asked us to turn our attention to Him in the Gitaij I will refer to some of them.

Before I go into its details and many different ways God can help us, I must answer this question, “Why are we incomplete without Godij We all know that there are seven billion of us. Can you imagine us living together peacefully if we had any more powerij No, that is unthinkable. Even a little power goes to our heads. Isn’t there a saying that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutelyij When we are linked with God and then receive power, we can handle it in proper ways, because God grants power only to those who will not misuse it. We don’t lose anything if we connect with God; we will gain only as has been experienced by all those who have over the ages.

In Verse 8.7 of the Gita, lord Krishna states, “Remember me at all times. Having surrendered the mind and the intelligence to me, you will undoubtedly attain me only. Those who worship me with undivided attention, meditating on me, for these regular practitioners of yoga, I help in getting what one does not have and provide security of what one has.” (9.22) “Be in my consciousness; become my devotee; be my worshipper, and offer obeisance to me. This way, having linked the soul to me and being dependent upon me, you will attain me only.” (9.34) This message has been repeated in Verse 18.65. One can imagine how important the following must be, “Fix you mind on me only; engage you intelligence in me; thus hereafter you will remain in me only; there is no doubt about this.” (12.8)

Why does the lord insist so much about engaging our minds in Himij Because if we don’t, our minds will be engaged elsewhere and we are likely to do a lot of damage to ourselves, as has been experienced by one and all. Because the mind has been described as a troublemaker and one leading us to the wrong path. Contrarily, if engage our minds in God, we can get so much from Him. I have detailed herein a few such benefits. The first thing we are looking for is protection and security of what we have. God promises that in Verse 9.22, if we meet His requirements. The next thing which motivates all of us is fulfillment of our desire for different objects we lack. God promises this also in the same verse. Then, God must respond to our prayers whenever we seek His help. God calls such persons noble. (7.18) Obviously, God is going to help but not exactly as we seek but what He considers proper. Don’t we get into trouble helplessly for mistakes made consciously or inadvertentlyij What can be done thenij God promises to help if one has God-consciousness. This is somewhat like one tries to help a dependent, though God’s help is absolute; ours can be limited at best.

Aren’t we all desirous of opulence, especially wealthij God’s association ensures that (18.78). We have many examples of saints who desired to propagate God’s messages, serve the poor and needy; they were showered with plentiful of it. Similarly, those who are engaged in activities promoting dharma gain success by the grace of God. Peace is sought by everyone. God is the authority who ensures this if one is linked with Him, and this is unlike the calm before the storm. Who can guide better than the omniscient God, who has the big picture, whereas we can only have a limited idea of somethingij It is no wonder that we make so many mistakes and get into trouble.

Yes, doing what God expects us to do is not that easy because our uncontrolled minds, material intelligence, and inflated egos come in the way. Considering the prize, which is on offer, it is worth doing this tapasya. Then one will also ensure that one will never lose one’s mental faculty, which causes such a calamity on those afflicted by it. We will be complete.
