A woman was brutally murdered and her daughter shot and left seriously injured by criminals who robbed a home in Haldwani on Tuesday. The criminals also killed a pet dog in the home before making away with a vehicle and other loot. The incident has raised questions at the condition of law and order in the region especially after the High Court too had taken cognisnace of the situation and had sought an explanation from the Nainital district Senior Superintendent of Police some time ago.
According to sources, the mother of Gorapadav area resident lakshmi Datt Pandey is hospitalised. On Monday night, he had gone to the hospital to tend to his mother leaving his wife Poonam Pandey, aged 45 years and daughter Arshi Pandey, aged 19 years at home. It is believed that sometime during the night, unidentified criminals raided the home. The intruders used a sharp weapon and also shot Poonam Pandey, murdering her.
The daughter Arshi was also shot and sustained a fracture. The criminals ransacked all the cupboards in the home and stole a 12 bore gun and a two-wheeler.In the morning at about 7 AM when Pandey returned home from the hospital, he came across the crime scene.
While his daughter was lying unconscious in a room, his wife’s bloodied body was on the bed. The family’s pet dog had also been brutally murdered. All the contents of the metal cupboard was scattered outside with the artificial jewellery lying there along with some documents. Pandey informed the police about the heinous crime.
His daughter was taken to hospital while the inspector general of Kumaon division, Puran Singh Rawat, Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police Janmejay Khanduri, superintendent of police (City) Amit Srivastav and other officers also reached the scene of the crime. Sending the body for post mortem examination, the police also questioned the family members.
According to sources, the police are investigating the case from various angles including loot, personal rivalry, property and other possible motives. The police are also of the view that those who committed the crime were not seasoned criminals.
