Sikhs an integral part of Hinduism: Yogi

Tuesday, 30 October 2018 | PNS | Lucknow

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that saffron was the colour of Sikhism and it was adopted by Bharatiya Janata Party as Sikhs are an integral part of Hinduism and the BJP propagates this philosophy without any hesitation.

“It is only the BJP which has adopted Sikh’s saffron colour. Those organisations which have used Muslims as vote bank desist from using saffron in their colours. This is really a big mockery of the political system,” Yogi said while addressing a Sikh Sammelan in Lucknow on Monday to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

The Chief Minister said that there was no difference between Hindu and Sikh families. “But attempts are being made to divide them by spreading canards. People who are doing this do not know the history of Khalsa. They were born to protect Hindus. Sikhs and Hindus have always lived in harmony and will continue to do so in future also,” he said.

Yogi declared that out of the eight medical colleges coming up in Uttar Pradesh, one will be named after Guru Nanak Dev.

“Some institutions will also be named after Guru Gobind Singh and Guru Teg Bahadur,” he added.

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said that Sikhs had played a stellar role in making Narendra Modi the Prime Minister of India.

“They (Sikhs) played the same role in Uttar Pradesh by ensuring a resounding victory of the BJP, paving the way for making Yogiji the Chief Minister of the state,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma said that the party which was instrumental in killing Sikhs in the 1984 riots had no right to seek vote and support of the community.

“Opposition parties like Congress, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party are in the ICU and their revival is next to impossible,” he commented.

President of Lucknow Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Rajendra Singh Bagga, demanded that Baldev Singh Aulakh be made a Cabinet minister in the Yogi government.

Aulakh is junior minister in the Minority Welfare department.

In his address, Aulakh said that the Yogi government was working for the welfare of the people. He strongly advocated the construction of Ram temple at Ram Janmabhoomi complex at Ayodhya.
