When in operation, the Jharsuguda Airport can operate a 320 Airbus having passenger carrying capacity of 200 as it has received a 4C category licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
People from western region of the State along with neighbouring States like Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh would use the airport very soon and tourism and industrial sectors of western Odisha would get a boost.
Earlier in May, the DGCA had given 2B category licence to Jharsuguda Airport. Thereafter, the Airport Authority of India had applied for 4C category licence. On June 30, a four-member DGCA team headed by Deputy Director Subrita Saxena had inspected the infrastructure at the airport. Besides, a five-member team led by Regional Director of Airport Authority of India, Kolkatta BP Sharma had come and reviewed security aspects.
With 4C category licence, an A320 Airbus can safely commute from Jharsuguda airport shortly, said the Jharsuguda Airport Director.
