Union minister of state for Housing and Urban Development Hardeep Singh Puri filed his nomination papers on Wednesday for Rajya Sabha by-poll in lucknow on Wednesday.
State BJP chief Mahendra Nath Pandey, Chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma along with senior leaders were also present during the filing of papers.
Before filing papers, Puri reached the state BJP office at Vidhan Sabha Marg. later, the Union minister along with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other senior BJP leaders walked to the Assembly building situated across the BJP office.
The by-polls for Rajya Sabha seat was necessitated following the resignation of former Defence minister Manohar Parrikar, who returned to Goa as Chief Minister soon after Goa Assembly elections in March 2017.
Speaking to reporters after filing papers, Puri thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah for the trust reposed in him. Puri’s election is certain due to the BJP’s massive strength in the Assembly and also the fact that by-polls are usually won by the ruling party.
The process of the nomination commenced on December 29 and the last date for filing papers is January 5 while scrutiny will be held on January 6. The last date of withdrawal is January 8. Hardeep Singh Puri, whow as inducted in the Union cabinet during a reshuffle in September last year, is set to be declared elected on January 8.
