Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday dedicated to the public the Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Setu built under Nabard assistance over river Mahanadi here connecting the city to Nuapatna of Athagarh sub-division on the north of the city.
Patnaik said the bridge would reduce the travelling distance between Cuttack and Dhenkanal by around 16 km and would also facilitate the people of the city to reach the famous Dhabeleswar Mandir on the other side of the river easily.
Some Cabinet colleagues of Patnaik, two BJD MPs and all MlAs of the district, barring Congress MlA Prakash Behera of Salepur and arrested BJD MlA Pravat Biswal of Cuttack Choudwar, were present on the occasion.
The 2,583-meter-long bridge having three lanes and two footpaths has been built at a cost of Rs 157.47 crore. While the bridge was stipulated to be completed on April 25, the work at the last moment was expedited to inaugurate it on the Utkal Divas.
