Boy killed for love affair in Hazaribagh

In a case of honour killing, a 16-year-old Sumit Kumar, who was Std-9th student of Surekha Bhai Public School in Chouparan, was beaten to death by relatives of a girl with whom he was having affair. The incident taken place in Kakrola village of Padaria panchayat in Chouparan block, some 60 kms away from Hazaribagh district headquarter. Police confirmed arresting three including brother of the girl.

According to sources, Sumit was having affair with a girl of std-8th of the same school.

He went to meet the girl with two of his friends on Friday evening but was caught and tied by brother, parents and few relatives of the girl.        

With duo friends fled, Sumit was tied and beaten up mercilessly. Mukhiya of Padaria panchayat, Pappu Rajak reached there with his men and tried to save the boy but faced opposition from the girl’s family.

On information of Rajak, police reached to village and recovered injured Sumit from the girl’s house. He was sent to Chouparan referral hospital but doctors referred him to Rims, Ranchi for better treatment seeing his critical condition. Today he died in Rims with doctors termed the reason as internal injuries. At Rims, postmortem done and body handed over to relatives.

Police later arrested girl’s brother Rishab Raj alias Chotu(17), his mother and an aunt while other male members escaped from the village. Officials said efforts on to nab the other culprits.

Sumit belonged to Karni village in Itkhori block of Chatra district. He was living with his material uncle in Chouparan who is a BJP leader. About Sumit, they said he was the only child of his parents.

Local residents and those of Chandravanshi community from which Sumit belonged met to officer-in-charge of Chaouparan Sudama Kumar demanding action in this case. They said both boy and girl belonged to different community so Sumit was killed mercilessly. Kumar assured of action.

At Sumit’s school, a condolence taken place with all remembered him as a good student.
