1st J'khand Int'l Film Fest on May 25-27

The First Jharkhand International Film Festival will be held in Ranchi from May 25 to 27 at Mega Sports Complex here during which 65 films of national and International fame will be screened in different theatres in the State Capital.

Divulging the details of the fest to media persons at Press Club, Organising Committee Chairperson Rishi Prakash Mishra said that Bollywood star actor Priyanka Chopra will be the first to be honoured with Sridevi Excellence Award. 

Entry during all three days will be free of cost so that more and more people could take part in this historical event taking place in Ranchi.

“Actor Priyanka Chopra will be the first to receive ‘Sridevi Excellence Award’ along with awards to be announced in the names of renowned persons of Jharkhand in different categories during the First Jharkhand International Film Festival in Ranchi,” said Mishra. life time achievement award will be given in the name of academician of international fame Ram Dayal Munda, he added.

Mishra further said that a total of 156 films of different nature which had come before the Jury Members, 65 short and feature films were selected for screening during the three-day Festival.

“All these 56 nominated films will be screened during 14 shows organized in different theatres and multiplexes in Ranchi by screening two shows in each of them,” said Mishra. 3 films for children will also screened on May 26 for which students of government and non-government schools have been invited, he added.

The Organising Committee Chairman said that a special 2-day workshop on film making by renowned Spanish Film Superstar Rajkumar Gupta will also be organized to promote regional film making in the State.

“Gupta will also be felicitated during the film festival for his achievements during which Ambassador of Spain in India has consented to be present to mark the event,” said the Organising Committee Chairman.  A workshop by Siddharth Sikka, who is running a web series, will be organised so that the youths could get an idea of earning money from this new technology, he added.

Mishra said that the idea behind this film festival is that, Jharkhand, which is culturally and traditionally strong but weak in terms of films, could be provided a platform to showcase its hidden talent for which efforts are being made to collect scattered ‘Jharkhandi’ talent from all over the world in the name of this historical event. 

Padmshri recipient and folk artist Mukund Nayak said that ‘Akhra kar kona’ will be the main attraction of this Film Festival through which different tribal art forms will be showcased for which 9 forms have been identified.

“The film makers coming from different parts of world will also be made aware of Jharkhand Film Policy and the virgin shooting locations which will also give a thrust to tourism in the State,” said Nayak.

Reception Committee Chairman Pawan Bajaj addressing media persons said that this historical moment will bring fame to the State as it will promote people of Jharkhand who are already associated with film industry.

“Our only motive through this historical moment is to acknowledge those persons who have already been working in this field and bring them forward by giving them a proper platform,” said Bajaj. “It is an effort to bring forward Jharkhand’s hidden talent which is scattered all over the world,” he added.
