local industries to prosper after GIS, says Chief Secy

Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma has said that local industries were among those ready to have maximum benefit from Global Investors Summit (GIS). Reviewing preparations of two-day mega investment carnival to be organised on Thursday-Friday this week, she said on Sunday that the government was organising first ever investment on such a large scale only to see local industries flourishing more and more in days to come.

“We are expecting around Rs 3 lakh crore of investment proposals to be signed during two days of GIS, which is not a normal kind of investment. A huge sum from this expected investment is destined to be put into existing industries in the State directly or indirectly. So, I strongly believe this investment summit is being organised not at the cost of local industries, but for them itself to prosper more and more in coming days,” said the CS.

Notably, a fraction of political and non-political outfits in the State have been preparing for protests of GIS claiming that the government had failed to take care of existing industries in the State and GIS was not going to help anymore. Parties including the Congress, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Jharkhand People’s Party (JPP) have remained extremely vocal against GIS since couple of weeks. JPP has gone a step further by calling a statewide bandh on the opening day of GIS.

“The amount of interest national and global investors have reflected towards being a part of development of a mineral-rich State like Jharkhand, is overwhelming. We are trying to get maximum of them translated into reality, which will eventually create crores of employment opportunities through investment in labour intensive industries,” she added.

Japan, Tunisia, Czech Republic and Mongolia would be partner countries for the GIS. The two-day summit is expected to attract more than 2,200 delegates from across the globe including USA, China, Singapore, Russia Australia, Afghanistan and UAE, who will be exploring possibilities of investing in a State which occupies around 40 per cent of the mineral base of the country alone.

She also said that the government was not relying on investment in mineral sector alone, but was trying to get industrialists investing in healthcare, education, agriculture, food and feed processing, technology and skill development. “We are not focusing on a particular segment, but eying at overall development of the State, where there is a huge opportunity for anyone and everyone,” said the CS.

Verma visited Khelgaon on Sunday, where preparations of GIS are being carried out on war footing. She took minute details of preparations and also directed officials taking care of preparations over a few things. She said after inspection that she was very satisfied with the way entire team had been working to welcome national-international business giants.
