The 33 Raising day of the 14 battalion of Assam Rifles was celebrated with patriotism and zeal here on Sunday. The celebrations started by ceremonial cake cutting ceremony.
The organiser of the event, Colonel SD Goswami said the battalion was raised on October 15, 1985 at Happy Valley Shillong on a mix class composition.
The troops of the battalion have participated in Operation Trident, Operation Alert, operation Madad and Rakshak, Operation Meghdoot, Operation Falcon and Operation Rakshak. The battalion received Army Chief Citation for Operation Rhino in the year 2000 while in the year 2016 Army commander citation was handed over to it. Two Kirti Chakras, two Shaurya Chakras, ten sena medals have been conferred to the jawans and officers of the battalion till date.
A cultural event was also organised on the occasion in which women and children participated with enthusiasm. Colonel R S Pundeer (Rtd), SD Goswami, HB Rana, Gautam Ranpal, Vijay Gurung and large number of serving and retired officers and other ranks participated in the programme.
