Cash worth nearly 27.5 lakhs rupees in defunct denominations of Rs1,000 and Rs500 was seized from two SUVs in Bokaro last night.
During vehicle checking at Jharkhand More (on Bokaro-Dhanbad road) under Harla police station, police found cash of Rs25 lakhs in defunct denominations of Rs1,000 in one Innova car (regn no. – WB 02 U 0451) on the way from Ranchi to Kolkata while Rs2.5 lakhs from another car (regn No. – JH 09 AD 7005), said Ajay Kumar City DSP Bokaro.
According to the police cash recovered from Innova car belongs to Ranchi based IVF Infertility Center’s owner Dr Jayshree Bhattacharya. The Center’s PRO Mohiuddin was carrying the cash from Ranchi to her Kolkata based residence and cash belongs to the hospital.
Another car going to Dhanbad was also intercepted in which Rs2.5 lakhs in cash was found in defunct denominations of Rs1,000 and Rs500 belongs to Vinod Agarwal, a Cooperative colony Bokaro based businessman, police said. According to Agarwal he was with cash to purchase
fertilizer.
The police later informed the Income Tax department officials. Following the cash seizure, the cars were impounded by the police at Harla police station.
