Renowned Muslim cleric Maulana Syed Mohammad Rabey Hasani Nadwi was unanimously re-elected president of the All India Muslim Personal law Board, (AIMPlB), for the sixth time.
The announcement was made on the opening day of the three-day annual conference of AIMPlB, an apex body of the Muslims held in Kolkata on Friday. The Maulana was elected for next three years to head the board.
However, there was no prominent change in the position of other office-bearers as all were also unanimously re-elected, confirmed Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali, the member of the board and presently attending the conference in Kolkata. Maulana Rabey, rector of the Nadwatul Ulama of lucknow, was first elected in April 2002 following the death of Qazi Mujahidul-Islam Qasmi. It is for the sixth time that Maulana Rabey, Rector of the Nadwatul Ulema, a famous Islamic education institution, will head the AIMPlB, which was formed four decades ago to protect the “Shariah” or the Islamic laws.
Maulana Rabey later picked his team for the sixth term wherein he nominated his old panel which included Maulana Syed Wali Rahmani as general secretary of AIMPlB, Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani and Maulana Mohammad Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi as secretaries and other office-bearers of the outgoing team. A 40-member executive body was unanimously elected wherein all the members who had completed their three year term were re-elected. Five new members of the executive committee were also elected in place of those who had passed away in last three years.
Shia cleric Kalbe Sadiq of lucknow and Fakruddin Ashraf of Ambedkarnagar districts of UP were again re-elected among the four vice -presidents whle Begum Nasreen Ektdar of lucknow was among the four women to be elected in the Board. The board this time has also set up a 40-member women council in which three women are from UP.
