The Film Journalists’ Forum (FJF) organised the 10th edition of Smrutichhaya with screening of Odia classic film Samaya here at the Jayadev Bhawan on Friday. The film made under the banner of the Sonali Production had been released on December 29, 1976.
Yesteryears’ heartthrobs Sriram Panda and Prasant Nanda are in the leading role in the movie. Tripura Mishra, Dhira Biswal, Jyotsna Das and Ashok Sharma have also acted in the evergreen film.
Music was composed by the then hit Jodi Bhuban-Hari (Bhubaneswar Mishra and Hari Prasad Chaurasia). “Sajani Re Kahin Gale Shyama...”, “Re Priya Moro...”, “Jhimi Jhimi Ka Maja...”, “Dharichhi Jebe Chadibi Nahin...” and “Guhari Suna Bhagabana...” are the songs of the cinema that are being heard by even today’s generation. Singers like Mukesh, Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle and Suman Kalyanpur rendered their voice.
On the screening occasion, the persons who are living and associated with this cinema were felicitated.
Cine stars Akash DasNayak, Sidhhant Mohapatra and Anu Choudhury, cine critics and cine lovers made a beeline to see this partly-coloured picture.
Akash praised the initiative taken by the FJF. “I felt grateful to see the way the actors and technicians of yesteryears were working,” he said.
The picture was the tenth of the series of Smrutichhaya. Previously, cinemas like Shree lokanatha, Ka, Ghara Bahuda, Jeevan Sathi, Sansara, Malajanha, Chilika Tire, Kie Kahara and Nagaphasha were screened. FJF secretary Surjya Deo said, “The aim behind this initiation is to restore the glory of Odia cinemas as well as to offer an opportunity to the younger generation to see how rich were our cinemas at that time when there was no technology that the present Ollywood is having.”
