Housing and Environment Minister Rajesh Munat on Friday informed the Chhattisagrh Assembly that power plants, biomass and other industrial plants in Urla-Siltara industrial area are producing on an average 6,334 tonnes of fly ash daily.
In a written reply to BJP member Devjibhai Patel, the Minister said that about 40 industrial units operated in Urla-Siltara and its nearby areas. The region is also home to seven power plants. He said the sponge iron factories and power units alone have been consuming thousands of tonnes of coal every day. The sponge iron units had been releasing more than 3,000 tonnes of fly ash and dust every day.
Similarly power plants have been releasing fly ash, waste, and dust of about 2227 tonnes, coal based power units 750 tonnes and biomass factories 323 tonnes, he said. He said the waste released by different factories are being used in the making of bricks. Besides they are also being used to fill up the pits and in the manufacturing of cement.
