Noted cine director Sabyasachi Mohapatra has opined that tribal people are being exploited by urban people in the State. Mohapatra said this during screening of his award-winning Odia film Adim Bichar (Ancient Justice) at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panaji.
He said diminishing tribal cultures of the State have mostly been the central theme of his films as he feels it is important to raise awareness about innocent tribal people.
“We are almost on the verge of losing tribals who are part of the varied Indian cultures. They are very simple and child-like people and due to these qualities they are often exploited by the modern people, who live in cities,” Mohapatra opined.
Informing that ‘Adim Bichar’ is based on his father Kapileswar Prasad Mohapatra’s short stories, he said the film is about a righteous Kondh tribal elderly man who turns rebellious when he is implicated and produced before court.
The lead role in the film has been played by 84-year-old actor Atal Bihari Panda, who also starred in Sabyasachi’s last project ‘Sala Budha’. Panda is his father’s close friend, he informed.
