The Indian Navy clinched the Governor's Gold Cup Sailing Regatta, held in Nainital after a gap of 40 years.
The Indian Army stood second in the three-day event held after four decades at the Governor's initiative to revive water sports and give a boost to adventure tourism in the state, hit hard by last year's calamity.
Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi gave away the trophies to the winning teams on the concluding day of the regatta yesterday, a press release from the Raj Bhawan in Nainital said here today.
Qureshi said he wanted revival of the event suspended for the last four decades to attract more and more adventure loving tourists to Uttarkhand. He hoped that the regatta will now be held every year.
