Two former Ministers from Congress join TDP

The Telugu Desam Party received a much needed shot in the arm in Seemandhra region when two more former Ministers and senior Congress leaders joined the party.

Erasu Pratap Reddy and TG Venkatesh, both from Kurnool were formally welcomed into TDP fold by party president N Chandrababu Naidu. Both the leaders from Kurnool district were among the Seemandhra Ministers who resigned in protest against the decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.

On Saturday, another former Minister from Chittoor district Galll Aruna Kumari and her son Jay had joined the TDP. Jay was expected to contest lok Sabha election from Ongole on TDP ticket.

Speaking at a programme at Chandrababu’s residence TG Venkatesh said that he decided to join the TDP on the personal invitation of Naidu. “Babu wants good people to join the party and he had shown the courtesy and respect to us. We have learnt from Babu the habit of hard work”, said TG Venkatesh who worked in the TDP in the past but had switched his loyalties to the Congress before 2004 elections.

Erasu Pratap Reddy said that he had decided to quit the active politics but changed his mind as he believes only the Telugu Desam Party had the capability to make Seemandhra a “golden State”. “Joining TDP is a matter of pride”, he said.

Chandrababu Naidu appealed to all the well meaning people to join the TDP to strengthen the Telugu community. He vowed to work for the development of both the States of Telangana and Seemandhra. “If Kiran Kumar Reddy and Pavan want to do something good for the Telugu people and work for their development, they should support the TDP because setting up new party will not be of any good to the people,” he said.

lashing out at the Congress party for creating bad blood between the people of the two regions, he said a situation was prevailing in which the new States will not be able to pay the salaries to the Government employees after the Appointed Day of June 2. He also took objection to fixing June 2 as the day of formation of Telangana State. “It is the national day of Italy,” he said.
