An ecstatic eve was witnessed by the city musical lovers in an event Sur Manjari here on Monday. A noted and distinguished sitarist Zunain Khan played live before the Bhopalites at Sardar Patel Hall Sardar Vallabh Bhai Polytechnic.
The event Sur Manjari was organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Notably, Zunain Khan has emerged as one of the foremost sitarists of his generation and is the principal exponent of the Jafferkhani Baaj, an innovation of his eminent father and guru Padmabhushan Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan.
Zunain represents the fifth generation of the Indore Beenkar Gharana in the lineage of Ustad Ghairat Khan, Ustad Murawat Khan, Ustad Jaffer Khan, and his renowned father. Recognized for a unique subtlety is his approach and rendition of ragas, Zunain has developed national and international recognition leaving his
audiences enthralled by truly delivering the legacy of the Jafferkhani Baaj and conveying the essence and the very beauty of his instrument.
Zunain impressed the audiences as he commenced the evening with Raga Chandani Kedar in madhya laya teen taal nimbat.
He further maintained the interest of the classical music lover with alap, jod and jala under the same raga.
Zunain then regaled the audiences with his next performance in traditional sitar music that took them in the musical feast created by Zunain on stage.
He played some of his compositions as well making the programme more delightful.
He gave a mesmerizing performance by striking the sitar strings in alap jhor jhala. The energetic performances given by him enthralled the audiences.
The listeners witnessed a pleasant world of Classical music at the Hall. The performance was mesmerizing and was commendable.
Regional Secretary of ICCR Nityanand Shrivastava told The Pioneer, “ICCR always endevours to present exotic events for the Bhopalites. So under the horizon series of ICCR, we have organized Sur Manjari where a renowned sitarist of the country Zunain Khan has presented a live concert.”
