The dreaded serial rapist-killer ‘Psycho’ Shankar's hide and seek with the police ended on Friday.
After a manhunt in several States, the Karnataka Police on Friday nabbed Psycho Shankar, who had escaped from the high-security Parappana Agrahara Central Prison by scaling 30 feet wall on Sunday, at Kudli Gate in Bangalore. Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar said, “We had constituted five teams to nab him. Joint CP BK Singh with the help of an informant nabbed him near Kudli Gate."
The Inspector General of Police (prisons) Gagandeep confirmed the accused had got the duplicate key to escape. He said, "It is true he had a duplicate key. We are enquiring how he got the key." In a meticulous manner, 36-year-old Jaishankar escaped from Parappana Agrahara central prison after scaling two 20-feet inner walls and jumping off a 30-feet outer compound wall with electrical fencing in a police uniform. The escape left the police red faced.
He is wanted in connection with 26 cases of rape, murder, and dacoity in Bengaluru Rural, Chitradurga, Hiriyur, Kadur, Molakalmur, Bijapur and Tumkur districts in Karnataka; and Chennai, Dharmpuri, Hosur, Salem and Tirupattur districts of Tamil Nadu. Psycho Shankar's escape had left Bangalore scared with the police even announcing a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to his arrest. Three wardens, two jailors and six security guards, who were on duty when he escaped, were suspended from service.
