In a significant boost to alternative medicine in Punjab, the Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Wednesday announced the establishment of a Government Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana district during the state-level ‘World Homeopathy Day’ celebrations at Municipal Bhawan. The event marked the birth anniversary of Dr Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, observed globally on April 10.
Dr Balbir emphasized the need to protect and popularize homeopathy, urging practitioners to take a leading role in advancing this traditional system. “This college will be a mother institution to propagate homeopathic treatment across Punjab,” he said, crediting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for championing the cause during his tenure as a Lok Sabha MP, ensuring government support for homeopathy.
The Health Minister outlined plans to upgrade the college into a postgraduate institution and assured financial support for infrastructure development. He also promised to fill vacant posts in the Homeopathy Department, reinforcing its role in Punjab’s healthcare system.
Renowned homeopaths — Dr AS Mann and Dr Avtar Singh — shared insights on new medical advancements in the field. The initiatives aim to enhance homeopathy’s role in public health, ensuring wider accessibility and scientific validation.
Pertinently, these initiatives will position the Homeopathy Department for a more prominent role in providing healthcare services by encompassing a multi-pronged approach to ensure its growth and effectiveness.
