Vikramotsav aims to showcase legacy of Samrat Vikramaditya: CM

Sunday, 23 March 2025 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is realizing the vision of "Development from Heritage" through India's knowledge tradition. After Lord Shri Ram, the governance of Samrat Vikramaditya stands as an exemplary model of good governance. The various programs being organized across the country, including Madhya Pradesh, under Vikramotsav are a remarkable effort to inspire people by highlighting different aspects of Samrat Vikramaditya's life and administration.

A grand event focused on Samrat Vikramaditya will take place in New Delhi on April 12-13-14, 2025. President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have been invited to participate. CM Dr. Yadav expressed these views in a media message issued from New Delhi regarding Vikramotsav.

Dr. Yadav highlighted that Samrat Vikramaditya is remembered with great respect not only in India but worldwide for his sense of justice, wisdom, patience, valour, perseverance, bravery, and depth of thought. Over 2082 years ago, he defeated foreign invaders and established the Vikram Samvat calendar. He ensured good governance by appointing 32 competent ministers, which led to his throne being known as "Simhasan Battisi". Samrat Vikramaditya also introduced a democratic governance system by forming a council of nine ministers (Navratnas), whose collective decisions were implemented instead of unilateral rule by the king. Many modern-day governance principles trace their roots back to his era.

Yadav further noted that Samrat Vikramaditya promoted trade and business by providing interest-free loans and emphasising housing for all. Similarly, PM Modi has taken effective steps to provide concrete housing for both urban and underprivileged populations and has also facilitated interest-free financial aid. The similarities between the governance of Samrat Vikramaditya and present-day initiatives are striking, particularly in areas such as education, justice, and economic policies.

He described Vikramotsav as a platform to showcase different aspects of India's knowledge tradition. Each minister under Samrat Vikramaditya's rule was an expert in a specific field and contributed to the transformation of administration into a model of good governance. He also pointed out that among the three renowned sibling duos in history-Shri Ram and Lakshman, Shri Krishna and Balram, and Samrat Vikramaditya and Bharthari-the latter belonged to Madhya Pradesh, with Ujjain as their capital.

Yadav announced that events focused on Samrat Vikramaditya's life and legacy will be organized across Madhya Pradesh on Gudi Padwa. Additionally, grand theatrical performances based on his contributions to public welfare will be staged outside the state. Last year, a similar event was successfully held in Hyderabad, and this campaign will continue.
