In a significant crackdown on criminal activity, the Tila Jamalpura police arrested two listed criminals during a routine check near Vasundhara Colony late Wednesday night. The accused, identified as Narendra Sahu (30) and Amit Pal (32), both residents of Chola, were found in possession of knives and were allegedly en route to an illegal gambling den near Hari Mazar.
Tila jamalpura police station in-charge (TI) D.P. Singh stated that the police had been receiving consistent reports about suspicious activities near the Hari Mazar Basti. Acting on these inputs, a night surveillance operation was set up in Vasundhara Colony, where officers intercepted two men on a bike who appeared suspicious. Upon conducting a search, the police recovered two knives from their possession.
During interrogation, the accused admitted that they were heading to a gambling den in the area and were carrying weapons for self-protection, as disputes often erupted during gambling activities. Further investigation revealed that Narendra Sahu has a long criminal history, with 13 serious cases registered against him in Chola, Gautam Nagar, and Hanumanganj police stations. His accomplice, Amit Pal, also has multiple past cases against him.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections, including the Arms Act, and taken both accused into custody. Their arrests have caused unease among gambling operators in the area, prompting authorities to intensify their search for those running the illegal betting network.
The police are now working to dismantle the gambling network and identify key figures involved in its operations. The crackdown is expected to have a significant impact on curbing organized crime in the region.
