A new experiment with the deployment of woman teachers at key positions in the Nilamber Pitamber university has been initiated by vice chancellor Dr Dinesh Kumar Singh. The move is unique and interesting both. Woman officers will hold grip on the universities.
Speaking to this correspondent today the VC said "We have done some rejigs. Woman teachers have been given some such portfolios which used to be a denial to them in the past here in the university". The NP university came into existence in 2009. Dr Manorama Singh has been notified as convener of the college development council (CCDC).
She has replaced K C Jha who has been reverted to his college Y S N Mahila in Daltonganj. The post of the CCDC was always bagged by the male teachers following its tough nature of work where CCDC is to interface and interact with the builders, developers and contractors since 2009 reminded the university.
"This time we have a hard working woman teacher Manorama Singh as CCDC. She will prove her mettle." added the VC. Close to the heels of the CCDC the new VC has brought in another lady teacher Vinita Dikshit as public relation officer of the university. This is again first of its kind like that of the CCDC where a woman teacher will handle the job for public relation holding meetings with the mediapersons and issuing press notes under the order of the VC.
The posts of the CCDC and public relation office now in the hands of women have helped the university to come out of its male chauvinism said the university sources.
No one had thought of these two rough and tough offices to go into the hands of women here in the Nilamber Pitamber university.
It's opportune to mention here that the post of the DSW (dean students' welfare) was already in the hands of a very senior lady teacher Ambalika Prasad.
She remained intact in this rejig said the VC. VC told "It's our way of woman empowerment. We will showcase their efforts for others to be like them." Asked if the reshuffling of the officers is any attempt to punish or cut to size the working officers, VC said "It was a long overdue. I took over charge of this university only on March 3 and right on the very first day of my office I felt the need to revamp the team of the officers." He said"I found some working officers most despirited. They showed callous indifference. So substitutes were found out." The rejigs were effected in the evening of Friday April 11, in strict confidentiality, keeping information a secret from the media till late last night. "I tell you very few officers knew about the reshuffling. Even the registrar in charge S K Mishra didn't know who was going out and who was coming in" reiterated the VC.
One other woman teacher Karunanidhi Tirkey has been tagged to the exam department to assist the incharge controller of the university exams Ravi Shankar.
Sources said the university has now a fleet of 4 woman officers namely dean students' welfare, CCDC, public relation officer and one to assist the controller of university examinations in the exam department which is a record of its kind.
Will tables of the Babus be changed also?
Pat came the reply of the VC "Yes. Tables will be changed. Babus will be transported from one table to another."
Again asked if such a drive will bring in results or it will turn into any mundane exercise, a confident VC said "We are determined to have a good working culture. Days are gone when Babus used to while away the time. Now they must work hard."
In a lighter vein this correspondent asked the VC if this reshuffle was a hajamat (hair cutting) or a mundan (tonsure) to which the VC said"It's a mundan. A clean shave." End
