First Mechanical Voting Machine unveiled in Bhopal

Sunday, 23 March 2025 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

n a significant step toward enhancing transparency and reliability in the electoral process, the Mechanical Voting Machine (MVM) was officially unveiled on on Friday, before media persons. The event provided a comprehensive overview of the machine’s working mechanism, technical features, and potential applications. A live demonstration was also conducted to showcase the machine's functionality and its promise to revolutionize the voting process.

The MVM is the brainchild of Shri Ramprasad Vishwakarma, a 75-year-old mechanical expert from Pachore, District Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh. With 14 years of dedicated research and tireless efforts, Vishwakarma developed the machine to bring enhanced security and reliability to the ballot-paper-based voting system. His invention aims to address concerns surrounding the integrity of the electoral process by offering a more transparent and tamper-proof voting mechanism.

During the event, Shri Kamlesh Vishwakarma, Co-Inventor of MVM, shared the emotional journey behind the project, describing how the machine was a long-cherished dream of his father. Determined to fulfill his father’s vision, Kamlesh dedicated himself to the project despite facing significant obstacles. He highlighted the challenges encountered during the patent registration process, which took five years to complete. After a rigorous examination, the Government of India officially granted the patent for the MVM in March 2024, marking a major milestone for the inventors and the future of electoral technology.

What sets the MVM apart from conventional electronic voting machines is its purely mechanical operation. The MVM does not rely on any electrical or electronic components, ensuring a tamper-proof and secure voting process. This mechanical system merges the traditional ballot-paper method with advanced mechanical technology, providing a more credible and efficient alternative for elections. The machine is designed to eliminate concerns regarding electronic manipulation, thereby ensuring greater voter confidence and election integrity.
