Body of Army officer found in Khelgaon Society

Wednesday, 19 March 2025 | PNS | Ranchi

Body of a Lieutenant Colonel was discovered within the premises of the Khelgaon Housing Society in Hotwar, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Khelgaon police station. The deceased has been identified as Diwakar Kumar, who was stationed at the Deopatoli Cantonment.

After being alerted about the incident, police officials arrived at the location, took possession of the body, and sent it for autopsy. Preliminary suspicion suggests that Diwakar Kumar may have died by suicide, possibly after jumping from the seventh floor. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Reports indicate that Lieutenant Colonel Diwakar had been struggling with mental health issues and was undergoing treatment for the past year. It was his routine to go up to the rooftop and spend time there, often talking to himself. On the night of the incident, he is believed to have gone to the roof again, though what transpired afterward remains uncertain.

At the time, Diwakar’s wife and daughter were at home, unaware of his movements. They only learned of the tragic event in the morning when a neighbour informed them that his body had been found below the building. The family mentioned they hadn’t noticed anyone leaving the house or heading to the roof during the night. Police are continuing their inquiry into the matter.

Following the report of the body, officers from the Khelgaon police station reached the scene. They also inspected the rooftop but did not find anything unusual. Later, Diwakar’s daughter handed his mobile phone over to the police. She mentioned that someone had informed her that the phone was lying on the roof, prompting her to retrieve it and give it to the authorities.
