The much-delayed council meeting of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) is now likely to take place on April 1.
Though officials attribute the delay to various reasons, including the Global Investors Summit, the Swachh Survekshan team’s visit, and ongoing budget preparations, critics say the meeting has been delayed due to the poor performance of the revenue collection drive.
A Mayor-in-Council (MIC) meeting will precede the full council session. Discussions on key issues have already taken place among the mayor and councillors.
Originally proposed for March 24 or 25, the meeting's new date is set for April 1. The yet undisclosed agenda is expected to be released prior to the meeting, providing clarity on the meeting’s schedule. This session will feature the presentation of a ?2,500 crore budget.
Congress councillors have protested the delay in the BMC meeting.
They have approached Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Singh for action, citing the mandated two-month meeting interval. Three months have passed without a fixed date or agenda.
