Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said the BJP government’s “Viksit Delhi Budget” for the 2025-26 fiscal will focus on economic empowerment of women, better education and health service, improved infrastructure, pollution and waterlogging woes, based on over 10,000 public suggestions.
“We received 3,303 emails, and 6,982 suggestions on WhatsApp... all the suggestions have been very useful in preparing the draft of the Viksit Delhi Budget,” Gupta said addressing a press conference. This will be first budget by a BJP government in 27 years.
“In the Viksit Delhi Budget, we have prioritised the suggestions received from Delhi residents and incorporated their expectations...,” said the Chief Minister, adding that the March 25-28 Session will begin on Monday with ‘Kheer ceremony’ on Delhi Assembly premises.
She informed that Consultations for the ‘Viksit Delhi Budget’ involved a diverse group, including women, educators, traders, industrial organisations, farmers, MLAs, MPs, youth, doctors, chartered accountants, municipal councilors, government employees, slum residents and influencers.
The budget session of the Delhi Assembly is scheduled to be held from March 24 to 28. The budget will be tabled on March 25.
Gupta said the upcoming Budget 2025-26 will truly be a people’s budget, delivering positive outcomes based on over 10,000 public suggestions.
Promising to present a “milestone” Budget, the Chief Minister said that from here on, Delhiites will be able to see the performance of “Double-Engine Sarkar” switching into the next gear.
The Chief Minister thanked Delhi residents for their overwhelming participation and assured them that their suggestions would be given priority in the budget.
She said, “The feedback we have received proves that this will truly be a people’s budget. We have received positive responses through email, WhatsApp, and public dialogues, and this budget will reflect the needs and aspirations of Delhi’s citizens. The suggestions received from the people of Delhi will be given priority in the developed Delhi budget and its format is being prepared keeping in mind the needs and aspirations of the people of Delhi”.
“In this budget, priority will be given to the common citizen of Delhi, which will especially include economic empowerment of women, smooth supply of electricity and water, solution to the problem of water logging during rains, control on air pollution, cleaning of Yamuna, expansion of education, better health facilities, development of infrastructure and employment opportunities”.
The budget will focus on meeting the basic needs of the public and have provisions for employment generation, she said, adding the BJP government in Delhi will ensure the budget fulfils Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Delhi’.
The Chief Minister said the draft Budget will be another step in the direction of Viksit Bharat.
“The focus will be on improving the living standards of women, poor, youth and workers while making Delhi a world-class Capital,” she said.
“This is not going to be a government’s Budget but a people’s Budget,” she said, thanking public for participating in the exercise of sharing ideas.
She said the Budget will focus on financial empowerment of women, continuous supply of water and electricity, prevention of waterlogging, check on air pollution, Yamuna cleaning, better education and health infrastructure, job creation and augmentation of basic infrastructure. “An effort will be made to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of Viksit Delhi,” she said.
