SLUG: BALLOT BATTLE

Senior Congress leader and INDIA alliance candidate from Chandidgarh Manish Tewari on Tuesday said that his family’s blood was mixed in the soil of Chandigarh and asserted, no matter where he lived, contested elections from, “we live for India, we die for India and we have done that”.

Replying to a question on BJP candidate Sanjay Tandon’s remark that he was a constituency hopper, Tewari said, although he did not want to react to such a trivial statement, yet he wanted to set the record straight. He pointed out, his father Prof Vishwa Nath Tewari was shot dead by Punjab terrorists in Chandigarh for refusing to compromise on patriotism and nationalism.  “My family’s blood is mixed with this soil, literally and I am proud of it”, he asserted, while adding, he did not want to rake up the issue but reminded Tandon that if this be the argument, then he should question himself first as he belonged to Amritsar as he was born and brought up there.

Tewari reminded Tandon that even his late father Balramji Dass Tandon had “hopped” constituencies from Amritsar to Rajpura. “May be Sanjay Tandon either doesn’t know about it or doesn’t remember about it”, he remarked in a taunting tone.

The INDIA candidate dared the BJP candidate to talk on issues and achievements instead of making frivolous remarks which neither have any basis nor any substance. He pointed out, now that the BJP has been in power for ten years and Chandigarh gave its mandate to the party on both occasions, now the city demands and deserves answers.

“Don’t tell us what you are going to do, tell us what you have done”, Tewari challenged the BJP candidate, while pointing out, people are asking for answers and not ‘jumlas’ anymore as they have already had enough.

I am committed to the welfare of all constituents of  Chandigarh: Tandon

"Chandigarh is my 'karam bhoomi' and I am committed to the welfare of all its constituents. I am accessible all the time to my city residents and have always worked for upliftment of all communities," said Sanjay Tandon, BJP candidate for the  Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat while speaking at a function organised by the Kendriya Arya Sabha at the Arya Samaj Mandir, Sec 7.
"I have  been associated with the Arya Samaj for a long time, and have great affection for it," said Tandon.

The BJP leader said in his address that he has always worked for social betterment in the city through different fora. These social activities were conducted under his father Balramji Dass Tandon Charitable Foundation. Balramji Dass Tandon was a towering figure in not just the region but even national politics.

Tandon shared that he fulfilled his social responsibility during COVID-19 to the best of his abilities. "During COVID  when residents  were facing shortage of masks without wasting any time, we created masks out of  'patkas' and got these  distributed  among  people. We were the first  to open a COVID Care Center  in the city with the help of Bharat Vikas Parishad at Indira Holiday Home," added Tandon. He also explained how he and his team facilitated the travel of migrants to their villages by providing all amenities like food etc.

Tandon added that with his efforts, Union Territory Cricket Association (UTCA)  has got recognition from the BCCI   which is  providing a platform to the players of the city .

Tandon said that he lives in the city, hence he is in constant touch with Chandigarh residents and is always ready to help 24x7. On this occasion, he also made people aware about the right to vote and asked them to vote in favor of BJP to speed up other development works in the city.
