Eight candidates purchase forms for Ranchi LS seat on first day

On the first day of nomination for Ranchi Lok Sabha seat, eight candidates purchased nomination forms. On the first day for purchase of nomination forms the candidates who purchased forms includes Rancho sitting MP and BJP candidate Sanjay Seth among others. The notification regarding the elections to be held in the sixth phase has been issued today (Monday). Socialist Unity Center of India (Communist) candidate Mintu Paswan filed his nomination in the office of the returning officer located at Collectorate Block-A.

The candidates who purchased forms included Manoranjan Bhattacharya, Independent, Sanjay Seth, Bharatiya Janata Party, Mintu Paswan, SUCI (Communist), Ramhari Gope, API, Dharmendra Tiwari, Bharatiya Jantantra Morcha, Harinath Sahu, Lokhit Adhikar Party (JHA), Pankaj Kumar Ravi, (People's Party of India Democratic) and Manoj Kumar, Independent.

Ranchi Lok Sabha Constituency in Jharkhand is a political powerhouse renowned for its significant influence in Indian politics. Ranchi reflects a diverse demographic and remains a crucial constituency of Jharkhand. Now in 2024, the electorate is even more enthusiastic to show the power of their vote.

Though several candidates are in fray from Ranchi, the main fight is between BJP Sanjay Seth and Congress candidate Yashaswini Sahay.

Sahay daughter of former MP and union minister Subodh Kant Sahay is likely to file her nomination on May 6. Yashaswini Sahay, Congress candidate of Indi Alliance from Ranchi Lok Sabha constituency, can file nomination on May 6. Necessary preparations are being made for this. Meanwhile, she has started campaigning with her father, former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay and party leaders and workers. Under this, she is continuously visiting the area. She is originally from Tarhasi area of Palamu district of Jharkhand. Therefore, supporters of this family and party workers from Palamu are also reaching Ranchi.

Ranchi in past few decades has become the traditional bastion of BJP. In last Lok Sabha election, Sanjay Seth of the BJP won from the Ranchi  constituency, in 2019 elections, securing 706510 votes while 423730 votes were polled in favour of Subodh Kant Sahay of the INC. Subodh Kant Sahay lost by 282780 votes.

In the 2019 General Assembly Elections, Ranchi witnessed a fiercely contested battle. This constituency witnessed a 64.40% voter turnout in the year 2019. BJP candidate Sanjay Seth won the 2019 General Election with a victory margin of 2,83,026 votes, securing 7,06,828 votes. Sanjay Seth defeated Subodh Kant Sahay of the INC, who got 4,23,802 votes.

Kalpana Soren files nomination from Gandey

Jailed former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren's wife Kalpana on Monday filed her nomination as the JMM candidate for the Gandey assembly bypoll. Kalpana, 48, was accompanied by Chief Minister Champai Soren, brother-in-law Basant Soren, Jharkhand Congress president Rajesh Thakur and ministers Alamgir Alam and Satyanand Bhokta, among others. Bypoll to the seat is scheduled on May 20 along with the parliamentary elections in the state.

The seat in Giridih district fell vacant following the resignation of JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmad. Soon after filing her nomination, Kalpana said, "Give us one more chance, give us your blessings... this election is happening for the people of Gandey." Asked about the opposition INDIA bloc, she asserted that the coalition is strong in the state and the country.  The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha nominee also said she always takes criticism in a constructive manner.
