Congress to provide 50 percent reservation to women in Govt jobs: Tewari

Wednesday, 08 May 2024 | PNS | Chandigarh

Chandigarh Congress candidate Manish Tewari on Tuesday said that its government at the centre will provide 50 percent reservation to women in government jobs. Addressing a meeting of the city women organized by local councillor Taruna Mehta in Sector 30, Tewari said, providing 50 percent reservation to women in government jobs was one of the 25 guarantees the party has promised in its election manifesto. He said that Congress has always encouraged the progress of women and their participation in public life including politics. He pointed out, it was the Congress Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi who had provided 33 percent reservation to women in local bodies.

He said the BJP government at the centre recently betrayed the women of the country by delaying the implementation of the law for providing 33 percent reservation to women in legislative bodies including the parliament and state legislative assemblies. Besides, Tewari added, for the poor and downtrodden women, the Congress manifesto has promised ‘Grah Lakshmi’ scheme under which one lady member in every poor family will get Rs one lakh every year directly in her bank account.

The former union minister expressed his gratitude to the party workers, particularly the women for their overwhelming support. He appreciated the women representatives for their suggestions to improve the city. He said, he had taken note of all these suggestions and promised to get these implemented immediately after the elections.

Congress wants to reduce SC/ST/OBC's reservation quota and give it to Muslims: Tandon

The BJP candidate for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat Sanjay Tandon on Tuesday said that the Congress wants to reduce SC's/ST's/OBC's reservation quota and give it to Muslims. He added that   when Modi ji asked Congress to give in writing that it will not reduce the quota of SC's/ST's/OBC's  to give to Muslims, the party was silent and not reacting with an answer. Tandon was addressing members of the business community and industrial labour force.

Meanwhile, Tandon also launched a scathing attack on the Congress and its nominee Manish Tewari for trying to demoralize the security forces. Referring to the observations made by former Punjab Chief Minister SS Channi regarding the  attack on the IAF convoy in J & K, Tandon said this is the Congress’s real character. Tandon wanted Tewari to explain his stance on the national security issue. It is to be noted that Channi, a senior congressman had termed the attack by terrorists in J & K a poll stunt of BJP.

Slamming the Congress, Tandon said, “Such irresponsible statements are demoralizing for the armed forces.”Tandon said further that Congress was trivializing the sacrifices made by our soldiers and brave hearts and this shows their anti-national character. Modi, on the other hand, is worried about all segments of society particularly the armed forces so that the morale of the defence forces remains high. It is clear that it is only under Modi that growth of the country is possible.
