Cash and other materials worth Rs 244.55 cr seized

The investigation committees formed for the Lok Sabha elections have so far seized cash and other materials worth Rs 244.55 crore compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. This is thrice which was seized five years ago when the code of conduct was in force. The maximum amount of liquor worth Rs 33.77 crore has been seized. The Chief Electoral Officer has given instructions to be more strict in this investigation 48 hours before the second phase of voting.

After the implementation of the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, police and other enforcement agencies are continuously conducting investigations through inter-state checkpoints and 871 checkpoints set up within the state. These investigation teams have seized Rs 19.54 in cash from March 16 to April 22 and including the seizures made in other cases, a total of materials worth Rs 244.55 crore have been seized. Earlier, during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, materials worth Rs 85.12 lakh were seized. Drugs worth Rs 22 crore, liquor worth Rs 33.77 crore were seized.

According to Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan, in just 37 days, various unwanted materials worth almost three times more than the previous Lok Sabha elections have been seized. According to CEO Rajan, during the investigation, since the implementation of the code of conduct till April 22.

Similarly, more than 16715 kg of drugs worth Rs 22.23 crore and more than 2.144 kg of precious metals worth Rs 11.59 crore have also been seized. Besides, other valuable materials worth Rs 157. 39 crore have also been seized.

No one came to collect Rs 1.28 crore found in the bus in Jhabua.

In this case, Rs 1.28 crore cash was found in a bus going from Jhabua to Gujarat. This amount was being taken from MP to Gujarat in sacks. Till now no one has come forward to claim the amount which was seized ten days ago. CEO Anupam Rajan had also recently denied information regarding the return of this amount.
