In a heartwarming reunion that resonated deeply with fans of the beloved television series ‘Ramayana’, Deepika Chikhalia and Sunil Lahiri, renowned for portraying the roles of Sita and Lakshman respectively, joined hands with their on-screen co-star Arun Govil who played the role of Ram, for a spirited roadshow in support of his candidacy in the upcoming Meerut Lok Sabha election.

The roadshow, held in Meerut, marked a poignant moment as the duo embarked on a political journey together to rally support for Govil, who is contesting as a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate.

Commencing from the Mansa Devi temple of Meerut, the roadshow wound its way through the city streets, evoking memories of the iconic characters from ‘Ramayana’.

Deepika, resplendent in a saffron saree, stood close to Arun Govil, while Sunil Lahiri stood behind them in an open jeep, reminiscent of their beloved roles. As they traversed through the city, the trio greeted the enthusiastic crowd with folded hands, eliciting chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

At various intersections, people showered flowers on them, welcoming them with open arms. The roadshow provided ample opportunities for citizens to interact with the beloved actors, further strengthening their connection with the public.

The grand roadshow aimed to garner widespread support for Arun Govil’s candidacy, leveraging the immense popularity of ‘Ramayana’ and its iconic characters. This event serves as a reminiscent echo of the trio’s previous appearance together on January 22 during the auspicious consecration of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya.

“The convergence of entertainment and politics underscores the evolving landscape of Indian elections, where popular cultural icons play a significant role in shaping public opinion and garnering support for political candidates,” remarked political analyst Prabha Shanker Asthana.

As the roadshow concluded after touring the entire city, the collective efforts of Deepika Chikhalia, Sunil Lahiri and Arun Govil symbolised a unique blend of nostalgia, entertainment and politics, resonating with the electorate and marking a special moment in the electoral history of Meerut.

Alongside grassroots campaigning efforts, the BJP strategically mobilised support from prominent figures in the entertainment industry to bolster Govil’s electoral prospects. Renowned personalities, including singers Kailash Kher, Sonu Nigam, Anoop Jalota, Hansraj Hans, Lakhbir Singh Lakha, and veteran actors Hema Malini, extended their endorsement to Govil through heartfelt messages and social media posts, amplifying his outreach efforts across diverse demographics.
