2-day meet held to educate rice millers

The All Odisha Rice Millers Association (AORMA) organised a conference on modernisation, technical upgradation and export of rice by the rice milling industry.

The two-day conference was virtually inaugurated by Food Supplies, Consumer Welfare and Cooperation Minister Atanu Sabyasachi. Primary objective of the conference is to educate rice millers on modernisation technique and technologies. A large number of millers and technological solution providers also participated in the event.

In his message, Minister Nayak said, “In national level also our State is one of the leaders in paddy production and surplus rice. This is now a national level talk point. We are now considered as a grain surplus State. To maintain the trend we need support of all stakeholders including rice milling industry. Like our 5-T initiative, we expect from all of you to use technology for timely production so that people can get benefited.”

During the conference, technical upgradation and modernisation and scope of export of rice by rice millers was discussed. President, AORMA Mahesh Kumar Bansal delivered welcome note and general secretary Laxmi Narayan Deepak Ranjan Das presented a brief note about the conference.

On day two of the conference, two eminent scientists Dr Hameeda Banu Itagi and Dr Nese Sreenivasulu will address the gathering. Dr Hameeda Banu Itagi is Lead Product Development and Senior Associate Scientist of Centre of Excellence in Rice Value Addition (CERVA), International Rice Research Institute South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC), Varanasi, UP. Similarly, Dr Nese Sreenivasulu is Research Co-Ordinator of IRRI-India Research Programme, Head of Consumer Driven Grain Quality and Nutrition Research Unit and CERVA, Rice Breeding And Innovation Programme, .IRRI Los Banos, Philippines.
