Four children drowned in the Yamuna in the national Capital on Wednesday afternoon. Police said that they have found the body of one of the boys while search is going on for the others.
The children have been identified as Mohammad Ali (11), Sahil (13), Farman (13) and Rihan (13), all residents of Jaitpur Extension area in South East Delhi. Police said that the parents of four children work as labourers in the city.
According to Esha Pandey, Southeast DCP, a police control room (PCR) call was received at 3.35 pm regarding the missing of children aged about 11-12 years old after they had gone to play near the Yamuna.
“Acting on the call, a police team rushed to Yamuna river bank, adjacent to Vishwakarma Colony near Kalindi Kunj. Police team met the caller Sadkat Ali who told that his son Mohammad Ali along with three other boys had gone to Yamuna bank but didn’t return as yet,” said the DCP.
“Sadkat told police that he searched for them and found children’s clothes, three jeans pants, three t-shirts, one shirt, four pair of slippers lying on the river bank,” the DCP said, adding that immediately, Disaster Management team , swimmers from flood department, boats with search lights, fire brigade, ambulance were called at spot.”
“At around 5 PM the body of Farman was found trapped in mud in the river. Swimmers and divers are searching for other boys,” said police, adding that from the investigations conducted so far, it is found that children drowned while taking bath in the river.
