Woman, relative assaulted, robbed in city

Thursday, 27 June 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

In yet another incident of the antisocial elements losing fear of police, three bike-borne miscreants assaulted a woman and looted Rs 75,000 and gold ornaments from her on the Kargil Road under the Airport police station here on Wednesday morning.

Owner of a mobile phone shop, Subhadra Nayak was on her way to the city railway station with a relative by a scooter early in the morning when the miscreants coming by a black Pulsar hit the scooter, following which the two fell down.

Later, the looters threatened the woman brandishing sharp weapons and asked her to give her moneybag and other valuables. But when the woman’s relative resisted, they attacked them and snatched the purse and gold ornaments. The two victims were admitted to the Capital Hospital here for treatment. The Airport police started investigation into the incident.

Notably, this was not the first such loot incident on the Kargil Road. There have been a number of loot incidents earlier, but police due to reasons best known to them haven’t taken any steps to curb the crimes.

Some residents of Pallaspalli alleged that the Kargil slum is a hub of all nefarious activities such as drug trade and prostitution, but the police have turned a blind eye to it.
