Even as all the political parties claim to field more women candidates for the ensuing elections, interestingly Pinky Pradhan was found to be the lone woman named in the BJP’s second list of 22 Assembly candidates.
Pinky, an actor-turned politician, would be contesting polls from the Digapahandi constituency against senior BJD leader Surjya Narayan Patro and Congress’ Prafulla Panda.
“The ticket is not given to me, rather I will be representing Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Digapahandi. I will contest the polls as the daughter-in-law of the constituency,” said Pinky.
With Pinky Pradhan, a total of 10 women have been named in the two lists of 119 Assembly candidates announced so far by the saffron party.
The other nine women candidates are Radharani Panda ( Brajarajnagar), Kusum Tete (Sundargarh), Babita Mallick (Binjharpur), Ritarani Bagarti (Khariar), Archana Pradhan (G Udayagiri), Pravati Parida (Nimapara), Surama Padhy (Ranpur), Irani Roy (Nayagarh) and Bharati Behera (Khalikote).
