New testing stations soon to ensure genuine vehicle fitness

Friday, 19 July 2019 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Taking note of the increasing number of complaints about corruption inside the department in issuance of fake fitness certificates, State Transport Authority has sent two proposals to the State administration in order to make inspection and certification centre. According to sources, the estimated cost for these centres is about Rs four crore. These new testing stations will be fully automated and will give computerised results about the fitness of the vehicle.

Additional Transport Commissioner (ATC) Sunita Singh said, “This automated testing lane will be monitored through advanced equipment and the vehicle owner in the end will get an automated result from the computer. If there are minor shortcomings we will issue certificate but if the shortcomings are above permissible limits especially concerning brakes, steering and pollution, the fitness certificate will not be issued.”

According to the sources, the idea is to target corrupt officers and employees who after taking bribes issue certificates.
