The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will soon start the second phase of its drive against encroachments by traders and vendors in the city. Municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey stated that strict action will be taken against those who have encroached again on spaces freed by MCD and shopkeepers who enable vendors to sell their wares in front of their shops.
Pandey said, “We have completed the first phase of the drive for removing unauthorised vendors from the city. About 30 truckloads of materials were seized by us. We are planning to start the second phase of the drive soon.”
Regarding the need for again checking places freed from encroachments he said, “It is important for encroachers to fear encroaching again. For this, we have formed a backup team which will check and impose fines in the areas we have already cleared in the drive. Repeat encroachment is not tolerable and we fill seize the shops of the shopkeepers taking money from these vendors and allowing them to stand in front of their shops and in the road illegally. ”
