The stage is set for the much-awaited three-day annual national music festival of the city-based premiere cultural forum Bhubaneswar Music Circle (BMC) at then RabindraMandap commencing on Monday.
The inaugural evening would kick off with sitar recital by Odisha’s own Rabi Shankar Pradhan, one of the very few classical instrumentalists of the State to be known at the national level. It would be followed by Hindustani vocal recital by Vidushi Subhra Guha of Agra gharana who is currently based in Kolkata with the prestigious ITC Sangeet Research Academy.
The second evening would commence with Hindustani vocal rendition by Delhi-based journalist and vocalist Priya Kanungo, a disciple of the renowned brothers Pandit Raajan-Sajan Mishra followed by Carnatic violin recital by Chennai-based Akkarai sisters Subhalakshmi and Sornalatha. While Subhalakshmi has been a recipient of the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Prativa Puraskar of Government of India, Sornalatha has won Gold Medal of the University of Madras.
The final evening of the festival would feature Odisha’s Odishi vocalist Bharati Jena, a faculty member of the city-based Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya followed by a Hindustani vocal recital by Pandit Kaivalyakumar, an exponent of Kirana gharana, who serves as a guru at the Gangubai Hangal Gurukul at Hubli in Karnataka.
The festival has received patronage from corporate giants like ONGC, Nalco, Tata Steel, OMC and SAIL.
