SHO, ASI among 4 cops held for asking Rs 1.5 cr bribe from online cheat

The Delhi Police has arrested four of its police personnel including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at Ranhola Police station while Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Jasmohinder Singh of the same Police Station was sent to district police lines after they were found involved in demanding and accepting illegal gratification for releasing an online fraudster who was wanted by Chhattisgarh Police.

It has been alleged that the police personnel instead of arresting the accused kept him in a house in Uttam Nagar area in West Delhi and demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 crore from his family to release him.  Meanwhile, a departmental enquiry (DE) has been ordered against the delinquent policemen including the SHO.

The arrested police personnel have been identified as Sube Singh (ASI), Indu Parmar (Head Constable), Ajay (Constable) and their associate Sachin who kept the conman in his house at Uttam Nagar. 

According to a police official, the accused Pradeep Pradhan, who is a resident of Kanjhawala caught by Delhi Police personnel on September 28 in online fraud case registered at Chhattisgarh. “His wife Neha Pradhan was approached by the arrested policemen who demanded Rs 1.50 crore to release Pradeep,” said the police official. 

“After negotiations, the wife of the accused finalised the deal at Rs 1 crore with the policemen. She gave them first installment of Rs 11 lakh on Sunday evening. The rest of the money was planned to be delivered on Tuesday at Maurya Enclave,” said the police official.

“On Tuesday, Neha Pradhan reached the place with her two family members. She before handing over the money demanded policemen to show her husband following which the argument arose between police personnel and Neha leading to a fight between them,” he said.

“A police control room (PCR) was informed regarding the scuffle by passerby following which a PCR van nearby reached the spot and caught three policemen and others. The woman narrated her ordeal to police and a First Information Report was registered at Maurya Nagar police station and three police men were arrested. On their instance Sachin was also arrested from Uttam Nagar,” said the police official.
