Wednesday, 12 December 2018 | PNS | Chandigarh

To empower women, Mahila Shakti Kendras will be set up under Prime Minister Women Empowerment Schemes across all the districts of Haryana.

The centres would provide interface for women to approach the Government for availing their entitlements and would also empower them through training and capacity building.

This was revealed during a meeting of Joint Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, Ashish Srivastava with five states including Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal through video conferencing.

An official spokesman said that such centres would provide interface for women to approach the Government for availing their entitlements and would also empower them through training and capacity building.

These centres would also provide information and help to rural women on various Women Centric Schemes and services including One Stop Centre, Women Helpline, Mahila Police Volunteers, schemes and services for women victims of domestic violence etc.

He said that besides this, Mahila Shakti Kendras would be established at Block level also which would work in coordination with the district level centres. District level centres would have three members including one women welfare officer and 2 co-ordinators and the block level centres would have 7 members including 4 from colleges and 3 to be nominated by respective Deputy Commissioners. These members would be volunteers from NCC or NSS in which women would be given preference.

These members would be imparted training to work in Mahila Shakti Kendras. The District Level Centre will also review the Block Level Centres on monthly basis. He said that in a country like India where the number of youth is highest, this scheme would give employment opportunities for youth.
