With the arrest of four persons including their kingpins Pramod (27) and Mukesh Verma (24), the Delhi Police has busted a gang of auto-lifters and snatchers involved in a dozen cases of auto-theft and snatching.
The duo allegedly enticed two others identified as 20-year-olds Kamal and Rahul into the gang promising them easy money and a lavish lifestyle, police said.
Police allegedly caught them red handed on Friday at around 9.15 pm when they assembled at Chhath Puja park at Uttam Nagar to steal a vehicle. Four stolen motor cycles were recovered from their possession, police said.
“The four persons were arrested by Anti-Auto Theft Squad of Dwarka district.
The kingpin of the gang Pramod and his associate Mukesh Verma were both released from jail only last month, and soon after they again started indulging in motor cycle theft.
They had roped-in then teenagers Rahul and Kamal into the gang enticing them with good money and lifestyle,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse stated.
The accused Rahul and Kamal would allegedly carry out snatching on stolen motorcycles and thus remained elusive for a while, said the DCP, adding that, “the proceeds earned through snatchings were distributed among the four. The Quartet was fond of stylish clothes and liquor parties.”
Police revealed that frequent cases of auto lifting were taking place in Dwarka distict and AATS staffs were assigned to collect criminal intelligence and arrest the concerned persons.
“On Friday, information was received that a gang of auto lifters-cum-snatchers led by Pramod would assemble at Chhath Puja Park, Uttam Nagar in Delhi to commit another theft.
The information was developed and after verification a trap was laid. Around 9.15 pm, the quarlet assembled in two motorcycles and were caught red handed by the police force,” said the DCP.
“The accused persons have confessed to their involvement in around one dozen cases of auto lifting and snatchings,” DCP said, adding that, they are further investigating the matter.
