The BJD SC Cell has taken a decision to hold a State- level convention in the State capital in January to discuss about the problems affecting the Schedule Caste people.
The decision was taken at the second executive meeting of the SC Cell at the BJD headquarters here, which was presided over by the Cell’s convenor and State Planning Board Deputy Chairman Bishnu Das. The district functionaries were instructed to hold meetings at the district-level before the convention in January. During the discussions, concern was expressed over the Central Government reducing funds for scholarships for SC students. The Cell members urged for formation of a SC Development Council for the welfare of SC people and provisions for special funds for this.
Discussions were also held for formation of more self help groups for SC women and provide training to them to earn their livelihood.
Proposals for taking steps to ensure that all the welfare programmes reach the doorsteps of SC people, separate trial of all cases regarding atrocities on SCs by the district administration were passed unanimously.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s vision for the welfare of SC people was also discussed. Among others, SC Cell general secretaries Niranjan Sethi, Ashok Mallick, secretaries Minati Das, Surekha Majhi and other district functionaries were present.
